WELCOME TO THE
RALEIGH DISTRICT
|
HURRICANE KATRINA
|
Life
was fairly peaceful for the folks who lived
on the Gulf Coast of the United States, that
is, until August 29, 2005 when Hurricane
Katrina bullied her way on shore, leaving a
path of devastation that virtually defies
description. With Alabama, Mississippi and
Louisiana receiving major hits, it quickly
became apparent that we, as a district,
would need to focus our attention and
efforts on one area in order to make
a difference.
It became clear within a matter of
twenty-four hours that our focus would be on
Mississippi, primarily for two reasons.
First, the damage Katrina caused in
Mississippi alone exceeded the damage done
to Florida by all four hurricanes in 2004.
Therefore, there is more work to be done in
this state than in the other two. Second,
and more importantly, we selected
Mississippi because Hope Morgan Ward serves
as Bishop in Mississippi.
