A First Timer’s Look at General Conference |

Happy Cinco de Mayo!! What a day it was!! Legislation
was one of the most ridiculous things that I’ve ever
sat through. I’ve never seen a group debate more about
the procedure of parliamentary order than the actual
legislation. Bishops were getting confused about how
things went and people were getting angry. We were in
session until midnight. So for four and a half hours
we were arguing “Living into the Future,” and also
tedious financial matters. It was a long day.
On a different note, it was a sad day. I had to say
goodbye to a couple of the youth who had to leave
early. They were amazing people and I wish I had met
them before I did, but it was definitely a blessing
just to get to meet them. The strong knit group of
youth is slowly beginning to crumble and between those
two people leaving and the tedious work of the
conference, I can tell that the fun of General
Conference is crumbling as well.
Also, another goodbye is beginning to settle into
place. Last night, the delegation and other folks from
the NC Conference ate dinner with the Bishop and
honored him with a few reflections on his work and a
song. Filled with the humor of Paul and Belton and the
singing of Charlie Mike and the gang, it was an
evening fit only for a truly honorable person. Thank
you very much Bishop Edwards.
