Safe…well not really. David Banks (center), secretary of
the Independent Commissions legislative session reviews the
procedures for vote counting before the commission meeting
began. Petitions and resolutions are first assigned to one
of 11 legislative committees for either concurring, non-concuring,
amending, or referring. General Conference delegates spend
most of the first week during the two-week gathering in
legislative sessions.

A daily
observation of first time North Carolina Conference
Delegate Ben Adams to the General Conference. Adams is the
president of Conference United Methodist Youth.
DAY Four
Beginner’s Luck:
A First Timer’s Look at General Conference |
The Discipleship legislative committee is almost
complete. Today we finished at roughly 9:45 pm, so it
was kind of a late night. Even though 9:45 sounds
early to some people, it’s long when you have debated
some issues for roughly thirty and forty-five minutes
with amendment after amendment after substituted
motion after tabling. However, with having 57 pieces
of legislation in the beginning, three pieces remain
for a couple of sub-committees to review and the
entire committee to vote on.
The rest of the day was good, as well. I went to a
luncheon for the World Methodist Council with Hope
Morgan Ward. Their report consisted of a video
presenting the conference that will be held in the
summer of 2006. Mom and dad, I’m going to Seoul,
Korea.
Saturday will be a little more restful than other days
and oh how I look forward to Sunday (no meetings).
