DAY Five
Beginner’s Luck:
A First Timer’s Look at General Conference |
Finally!!! In every person’s life there comes a time
to just sit back and take it easy. This weekend was a
much needed time of rest.
Saturday morning began with a worship service,
followed by a two hour nap. The afternoon had just
thirty minutes of legislative committees and then we
were finished. So after three o’clock, I was a free
man. That night about ten of us went to Hard Rock Café
here in Pittsburgh. I didn’t even know Pittsburgh was
in such high status to host a Hard Rock Café. I guess
somebody thinks highly of this place. It was a fun
night though. I didn’t go back to the hotel room until
around 2:30. Late night, but good.
Sunday I went to a worship service in appreciation for
women’s ministry. It was quite an experience. It was
the most unique atmosphere of worship that I will
probably be in at General Conference, and it
definitely contained quite a few unique worship
experiences. Sunday afternoon a few of the youth went
to a sport’s bar. We ate lunch and watched the NBA
playoffs for about two and a half hours just because
we didn’t know what else to do with our free time.
Sunday night we went to the top shelf restaurant of
Pittsburgh; Monterey Bay. We had to call in and check
to see if it was ok if we could wear jeans. Supposedly
we aren’t supposed to, but we had no other choice.
It’s outside of the actual city, and actually up on
the hills that are across the river. We went to the
restaurant and then had to ride up an elevator to the
top room. It was beautiful. The walls were nothing but
windows overlooking one side of the city of Pittsburgh
and on the other small neighborhoods among the rolling
hills. As the sun set, I understood the beauty of
Pittsburgh; if you’re in the middle of it, it’s no
fun, but if you wait until the sun is setting and
looking down on it, it’s beautiful.
A late night again with the youth, but it was worth
it. It’s back to work bright and early tomorrow. |
Refreshed,
Ben Adams
