A daily observation of first time North Carolina Conference Delegate
Ben Adams to the General Conference. Adams is the president of
Conference United Methodist Youth.
DAY One
Beginner’s Luck: A First Timer’s Look at General Conference
If I have ever complained about being tired before today, I take it
back. The journey began at 3:30 a.m. after a brief nap due to last
minute packing and it continued until 11:30 that night. Needless to
say, the Westin’s campaign of having “heavenly” beds proved to be
true. Hats off to you, Westin Hotel.
Other than my weighted eyelids the day was very exciting. I had
problems checking in my room, I walked at least half a mile looking
for the youth room in the massive convention center, and I slept
right through my first meeting. (I guess that Westin thinks that
their beds are so heavenly, they turn down the volume of their alarm
clocks.) But in all honesty, it has been an amazing day. Many groups
were praying outside of the doors and windows of the convention
center for peace and for the Holy Spirit to flood the delegation.
Other groups were warming up their singing voices, reading through
legislation or reading scripture. Powerful, powerful stuff!!!
So from meeting the other youth delegates to hanging out with the
good ol’ folks from North Carolina, I’m beginning to find my place
here already at General Conference. And looking back at those
traumatic experiences of the first day, I guess one just has to
remember that today’s tragedies are tomorrow’s comedies. Welcome to
Pittsburgh!!
Overwhelmed,
Ben Adams.
