    THIS SATURDAY
    UMM annual gathering is Oct. 27 in Goldsboro
    NC Conference United Methodist Men will hold their annual gathering in on Saturday, Oct. 27 at St. Paul UMC in Goldsboro . Featured speaker is the new general secretary and national executive for UMM, the Rev. David Adams. A major emphasis of the gathering will be the transition of UMM from just a meet and eat fellowship to a comprehensive and all-encompassing men's ministry, reaching out to men of all ages in different ways, within and outside the church, calling them to accountability, Christian service and Spiritual growth. Registration will begin at 9:30 am with the program at 10 am in the fellowship hall of the church. Barbecue and Chicken lunch will be served. Cost is $10 per person. The program is expected to end at 2 p.m.

    Great Pumpkin Run/Walk for Disciple Bible Outreach Ministries
    On Oct. 27, the inaugural Great Pumpkin 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk for Disciple Bible Outreach Ministries will be held in Jamestown , beginning at Jamestown UMC, 403 E. Main Street , Jamestown , NC 27282 . The 5K Run will begin at 10 am with the Walk to follow at 10:10 am.
    Registration is $15, and forms can be obtained from the DBOM website at Disciple Bible , at the Jamestown UMC office, the Ragsdale YMCA or by calling the DBOM office at 336-434-8612.

    Peace Rally & Walk for victims and survivors of war and torture
    United Methodist Social Principles in part reads: “ … the mistreatment or torture of persons by governments for any purpose violates Christian teaching and must be condemned and/or opposed by Christians and churches wherever and whenever it occurs.” ( Para 164 V.A.)  The NC Council of Churches and NC Stop Torture Now are sponsoring a peace rally and march in Smithfield on Oct. 27.  There will also be music, street theater, and multiple speakers.  For more information, please see:  Peace Rally and Remembrance

    Robeson County Church and Community Center needs assistance

    Nothing But Nets

    Project AGAPE vehicle needed
    Several congregations through the Conference have joined in an effort to provide Project AGAPE with a new vehicle for the very important work of refugee relief.  A generous donor is willing to match a large portion of the vehicle cost.  Donations should be sent to:   Missions Office, 1307 Glenwood Ave. , Raleigh , NC , 27605 .  Please note on your check – AGAPE Vehicle.  One hundred percent of your offering will go to this effort.

    Ganta Hospital needs emergency dollars
    G.W. Harley Methodist Hospital , ( Ganta Hospital ) Liberia , is in need of emergency dollars for increasing patient loads and critically short medications.  Due to deepening poverty, many patients have been unable to pay for services and the hospital is currently experiencing a $19,000 shortfall in medications.  Additionally, development dollars are needed now so that the hospital can greatly lessen its future dependence on general church giving.  Please give generously and enable Ganta Hospital to continue and expand its care in the name of Christ to 300,000 of the poorest people on earth.  Gifts can be made through the local church offering by giving to Advance # 150385 – Ganta Hospital Emergency or you can make a donation with your credit card on-line at:  Ganta Hospital Emergency

    Igniting Ministry has matching grants for advertising
    Churches wanting to advertise and needed assistance with advertising cost can find assistance with Igniting Ministry.  Applications for Lent 2008 advertising will be accepted Nov.1-Dec. 1.  The application form is available to download at http://www.ignitingministry.org/matching/overview.aspx
    One million matching dollars ($1,000,000) are available to local churches each year to assist with TV/cable, radio, cinema or billboard advertising.  By using professionally created commercials and collateral advertising from Ingiting Ministry, can save dollars on advertising. Take a look at the advertising on the Media Warehouse at www.mediawarehouse.org . Here are the steps to follow for grant dollars:
    1 st Step:      Call Igniting Ministry for advertising quotes in a specific area. Jackie Vaughan or Pam                         Buck will provide assistance: 877-281-6535.
    2 nd Step:      Download and complete the application.
    3 rd Step:       Download and complete the “narrative” outline.

    * Your Connected Ministry – Ministries you are doing as connected churches in the NC Conference (overview of mission opportunities.)
    * Proclaiming Peace in a Time of Perpetual War – 2 – 4 hour workshop – scripturally based with high interaction and multi-media
    * Liberia – Land of Spirit , Land of Hope , Connecting with the Least.
    * Missions – A Journey of Spirit and Justice – 6 to 8 weekly sessions, journeying in the life of Jesus, considering how we make that same journey today.  Using the dynamic Biblical Animation (created by theologian, Ched Myers)  – reading scripture in today's context.
