Study says NCWC should not be added to UNC system

A UNC study committee is recommending against NC Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount becoming the 17th university in the UNC system, the Raleigh News and Observed reported in the Tuesday, March 27, edition.

Citing the study group report released Monday, the article said the study concluded the addition of NCWC would be too costly for the state.

"It would be more efficient, the report said, to provide education to Rocky Mount-area students at other UNC campuses, community colleges or private colleges or through UNC classes offered at a technology center already on the NCWC campus," the article said.

What happens next was not addressed in the article but from previous reports the Board of Governors is expected to vote on the report.  The General Assembly, which requested the study, could still enact legislation to add NCWC to the UNC system.

If the Board of Governors or General Assembly decides to add NCWC to the UNC system, Wesleyan's Board of Trustees would have to agree before any action by the state would be final.
