Stewardship Seminar
The Stewardship Seminar for Pastors New to the Conference will be held March 12-14 at the Trinity Center in Salter Path. First year clergy should register for the event by February 24. If space is available after that date, the seminar is open to any clergy. Retirement seminar for clergy
Clergy considering retirement should register for the 2007 Retirement Planning Seminar, scheduled for Thursday-Friday, March 15-16, at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside. Whether considering retirement in the next six months or three years from now, this event will provide vital information. Encourage your spouse to attend. Space is limited and the registration deadline is February 22 . Reminders about Annual Conference
- The deadline for submitting reports to the Conference Secretary for printing in the Book of Reports is Thursday, March 1. Anything that comes in after that date will not be included. All reports must be 250 words or less. Files may be submitted in Word format.
- Resolutions are due in to the Conference Secretary's office by Thursday, May 10.
- If your group will have a special meal during Annual Conference, at the Hilton or if you need assistance in planning, contact Andrew Schmidt for assistance at (800) 537-5564. Let Shannon Medlin ( smedlin@nccumc.org or (800) 849-4433 Ext. 222) in the Conference Secretary's Office know the time, date and place of the Special Meal so it can be listed with other Annual Conference information.
- Deacons and Elders in Full Connection wishing to be considered for election as a General and Jurisdictional Conference delegate should visit 2007 NC Annual Conference to obtain a nomination form and instructions. Share with any interested lay persons who would like to be considered as a lay delegate that forms for laity can be obtained from the same site. April 1 is the deadline.
Applying for Federal Telephone Excise Tax Refund for Local Churches
The General Council on Finance and Administration has issued a press release concerning how local churches can apply to receive a refund of some federal telephone excise tax refunds paid on telephone service. This press release is available under Downloads on the Treasurer's Office website. It contains a link to specific instructions which will provide information you need for completing the required IRS forms. To request the refund, organizations must file the appropriate forms with the IRS for the 2006 tax year by April 16, 2007. Brochure for Conference-Wide Day for Older Adult is in the mail
On May 9, the NC Conference Older Adult Ministries Committee will be sponsoring a Day-A-Way event called Aging: A Spiritual Journey . Brochures with detailed information and registration forms were just mailed. It well be held at Garner United Methodist Church. There will be a time of Worship led by Rev. Vernon Tyson; Linda K. George, Duke Professor as Keynote Speaker; a choice of workshops for Older Adults and those working in Older Adult Ministry; Lunch with Entertainment; and displays with ideas and information including resources from Cokesbury.
