    Dr. Tony Campolo to speak for ZOE - tickets are available
    Dr. Tony Campolo will speak for ZOE on Friday, September 15, 7:30 pm, Edenton Street UMC, Raleigh.  Tickets are $40.  For the purchase of a ticket, ZOE will buy the equivalent of one new outfit and 100 servings of food for a child.     Camp Meeting Revival September 24-27 west of Elizabethtown
    The Wilmington District Camp Meeting Revival will be held September 24-27 at Butler Horse Farm in White Oak (on Hwy 53 West, five miles west of Elizabethtown).  Dr. Lenny Stadler will be preaching September 24-26 and the Rev.     CPI grants deadline is September 30
    Applications postmarked or received after September 30 will not be considered. The new application form is online at http://www.nccumc.org/docs/multiandsocialmins/2006cpi.doc . Application must be made on this new form. The committee is looking for new, creative, emerging ministry.     Critical issues seminars scheduled for September 30 and October 26
    The NC Council of Churches Critical Issues seminars, "Partners in Wholeness:Congregations and Health Care," take place September 30 in Asheville and October 26 in Durham.  For more information, visit: http://nccouncilofchurches.org and select Critical Issues Seminars or call the Council office at 919-828-6501.

    Pilgrimage registration deadline is October 23
    Brochures with information and registration forms for Pilgrimage have been mailed to pastors and youth coordinators.  The brochure is available online at the youth ministry website - events page:  www.nccumc.org/youthministry .  The registration deadline is October 23 - the number registered for the group may be adjusted up or down upon check-in at the event but the group (with an estimated number planning to attend) must be pre-registered.  Confirmation packets will start going out in mid-October.

    Living into Safe Sanctuaries
    Joy Melton, author of the books on safe sanctuaries and key leader in this area for the denomination, will be leading follow-up workshops on safe sanctuaries for those churches having adopted a policy and begun implementation of procedures and safe practices for ministry.  These Living Into Safe Sanctuaries Workshops will be Friday, October 27 at Garner UMC and Saturday, October 28 at Queen St UMC in Kinston.  The cost of the workshop is $10 per person and pre-registration will be required (lunch is included in this cost). Registration brochures will be mailed out later this month to pastors and key leaders in each church.  The registration brochure will also be available online at the website:  www.nccumc.org/childrnmin/safesanctuaries1.htm later in September.  This workshop is intended for representatives from local churches having adopted a safe sanctuaries policy and begun implementation and living into those safe practices for ministry.

    Church and Community Grant requests due by October 31
    Church and Community Grant requests are due to the Office of Missions no later than October 31 to be considered Year 2007.  Fax copies are acceptable if followed with a hard copy.  If grants are approved, funds will normally be distributed by the end March 2007.  You can download the process and the appropriate request and reporting forms at:  http://nccmission.org/church_and_community_grant.htm

    Youth Service Fund grant applications
    Applications for grants to be awarded from Youth Service Fund are due December 15.  The application is available online at www.nccumc.org/youthministry on the Youth Service Fund page.  NOTE:  these grants will not be awarded to local church youth groups for typical youth group programs and activities such as mission trips.  Grants are determined in January and the amount awarded sent in February or March.

    Clergy Partner's Retreat is March 23-24
    The Annual Clergy Partner's Retreat will be held March 23-24 at Fort Caswell, located on the eastern tip of Oak Island.  More details will be announced later or can be obtained from Annette Wright, agwright18@bellsouth.net , (919) 851-4545 or by calling Dianna Whittaker at (919) 837-5389.

    Reverse Mission Team to La Esperanza Sheltered Workshop in Santiago, Chile
    Ten slots are available for a "journey inward - journey outward" with missionary, the Rev. Shana Harrison, April 20 - May 2, 2007.  Each day will begin with communion and centering prayer.  Mornings will be with the participants of the workshop.  The afternoons will be filled with bible study, biblical animation, and visits to historical and contemporary sites where we might engage in considerations of justice.  Evenings will be reflections of the lives of individuals in Christ as incarnational dwelling.  Estimated cost will be $1250 for airfare and $500 for in-country expenses (may be some slight changes.)  For more information, contact Becky Biegger in the Office of Missions, 800-849-4433 ext 256 or beckybiegger@nccumc.org

    Liberia - Farmers Helping Farmers
    The NC Conference has been promoting and supporting Farmers Helping Farmers, the UMCOR highlighted ministry for many years. Mozart Adevu, the agriculturalist behind this work is a conference Rainbow Covenant highlighted missioner.  Support farmers who are teaching farmers to be self-sustainable. Read about the farmer to farmer training at: http://new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor/newsroom/hotline/ .  UMCOR sponsors field schools like this in Ghana, Liberia, and Democratic Republic of Congo.     Mozart Adevu is one of conference supported missionaries
     Mozart serves in western Africa as an agriculturalist.     No Hungry Neighbors
    There are approximately 365,000 children in North Carolina who are food insecure.  Through No Hungry Neighbors, 60% of your gift goes to the food bank serving your area and 40% of your gift goes to Society of St. Andrew of NC.  A check in your local church offering plate can give food to those in need.  Denote on the check or envelope:  Your church, district, and No Hungry Neighbors.  You can also send your gift to NC Conference/Raleigh Area, The United Methodist Church, PO Box 60053, Charlotte, NC  28260-0053.   Mark on envelope and check:  Attn:  No Hungry Neighbors!  Please make sure your name or the name of your church and district is listed on the check.  For more information, please see http://nccmission.org/no_hungry_neighbors.htm
