    Congratulations to 2006-2007 Conference Youth Officers
    At ACS, July 17-22, the NC Conference United Methodist Youth Fellowship elected the following to serve as officers for the 2006-2007 year:  President - Laura Lord from Louisburg UMC; Vice-President - Sarah Bell from Duke Memorial UMC; Secretary - Ellen Frazier from St Luke UMC in Sanford; Treasurer - Duncan McMillan from St Luke UMC in Laurinburg; and Legislative Affairs Person - Emily Farnell from Centenary UMC in Smithfield.

    Through the Eyes of a Child:  Weekday Ministries with Children Workshop
    The annual workshop for those in leadership of weekday ministries with children will be Saturday, August 19 at Highland UMC in Raleigh from 10am to 2pm.  Pre-registration is required by August 7.  The cost is $20 per person.  The registration brochure is available for download at www.nccumc.org/childrnmin/events.htm .

    "Terra Incognita" is theme of SEJ Older Adult conference at Junaluska August 7-10
    The SEJ Association of Older Adult Ministries is hosting its Annual Conference for Older Adults August 7-10 at Lake Junaluska. The theme is "Terra Incognita." Walter Kimbrough will be the conference preacher. Jane Thibault will be the platform speaker. Linda Harris, pastor at Cokesbury and Jenkins in Raleigh, will teach the Bible Study each morning. Workshops, worship and musical entertainment will be offered. Bill Gattis, Burlington district superintendent will be teaching a workshop for men only: Mental Health and Men.     Register for Financial and Retirement Planning Workshop
    Register now for the 2006 Financial and Retirement Planning Workshop. This one workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, August 23, at Hayes Barton UMC in Raleigh.   Included will be vital financial and retirement planning information for any pastor.  Clergy considering retirement in the next 10-20 years should consider attending. The spouse should also attend.  Covered during workshop will be vital financial and retirement planning information for any pastors.  Younger and/or new clergy to the UM ministry will learn information to help prepare for that "distant" event.   Space is limited.  The registration deadline is August 9.  Additional information and download of the brochure are available from the Conference Pension website , OR contact Sharon Saige in the Conference Treasurer's office (ext. 316) for more information. 

    August 31 deadline Youth Ministry award
    The deadline for applications for the Award of Excellence in Youth Ministry and for any youth or youth groups seeking to contribute to the program at Pilgrimage through house band, testimony, video or act of worship on stage is August 31.  The Award of Excellence application is available for download at the website:  www.nccumc.org/youthministry .  Contact senicholson@nccumc.org for any Pilgrimage requests.

    N.C. Five Day Academy for Spiritual Formation
    The fifth Five-Day Academy in the conference will be offered at the Trinity Center in Salter Path, beginning Sunday, October 1, and ending Friday October 6. The cost is $650.00.  The faculty:  Kathryn Damiaco and Glandion Carney.     Mental health conference in November, 2006
    Save Tuesday, November 7, 2006, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., for a Mental Health Conference at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Six Forks Road, Raleigh, featuring the Rev. Susan Gregg-Schroeder, a nationally recognized leader, speaker, and author in connecting congregations and mental health ministries.  She is mental health coordinator for the California-Pacific Conference of the UMC.
    Sponsored jointly by the Conference Committee on Disability Concerns, the National Alliance on Mental Illness-NC, and the NC Mental Health Association.  Registration is $5 and includes a box lunch. More details and a registration blank will follow later this summer.
