    Dear Colleagues:

    Attached are two documents:

    1.  The statement of Pope Benedict XVI , which has caused so much discussion, issued, June 29, 2007.  His statement is important to read because some responses publicized immediately after news of his statement were not based on the text itself.

    2  Statement of Bishops Janice Huie, President, COB; William Oden, Ecumenical Officer; Ernest Lyght, Secretary; and Roy I. Sano, Executive Secretary.  It was adopted unanimously at the Executive Committee meeting, July 16, 2007.

    The Executive Committee encourages it being sent to the clergy and other leaders of your Conferences  and encourages its use in worship services and study groups, including Sunday School Classes.
