Plan to Observe Legacy Sunday on September 14, 2008

Sunday, September 14, has been designated by the North Carolina Annual Conference as Legacy Sunday. Legacy Sunday is a day that has been set aside to honor those persons in each congregation who have created a legacy by establishing a planned gift to support the local church or one (or more) of the special ministries of the Church. These planned gifts establish endowments or trusts that generate funds to enable ministry.

Legacy Sunday also provides a wonderful opportunity to talk about how persons can support ministry through wills and planned gifts. If your church has an elected Legacy Leader, it would be an excellent time for this person to speak to the congregation about leaving a legacy.

The North Carolina Annual Conference Legacy Partners stand ready to assist you in your celebration of Legacy Sunday with the following resources:

    •  Providing a guest speaker . Legacy Partners are available to speak at your church on September 14 or some other Sunday proclaiming the story of Legacy Giving. The Reverend Jim Mentzer of the United Methodist Foundation will be happy to assist you in your request for a Legacy Sunday speaker. For more information, or to submit your request for a speaker, please contact Jim at jmentzer@nccumc.org or call him at 919-836-0029.

    •  The Legacy Partners website ( http://www.umlegacypartners.org ) contains valuable information for planning your Legacy Sunday celebration. This information includes:

    •  Legacy Sunday bulletin insert (PDF file or MS Word document)

    •  August 2008 North Carolina Christian Advocate ad for Legacy Sunday (PDF file)

Please contact the United Methodist Foundation if you need additional assistance in making your Legacy Sunday celebration more meaningful.

    Your partner in giving,
    Reggie
    Reginald W. Ponder
Chair, Legacy Partners Board of Directors
